Senior Resource Geologist

We are currently recruiting for Senior Resource Geologist for our corporate office in Reno, Nevada. Reporting to the Vice President Technical Services, the Senior Resource Geologist will be a member of the corporate technical services group, leading geologic and mineral resource modeling programs for the Company’s operations and exploration/development properties in Guatemala, Peru and Canada and participate in project evaluations and due diligence reviews of potential acquisitions.

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Maintaining a professional work environment and encouraging technical excellence from other team members.
  • Developing technical and leadership skills in all team members, providing regular, constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Resource modeling and estimation for annual NI 43-101 compliant resource report statements; reviewing long-term and short-term production modeling, annual budgeting and quarterly production forecasts.
  • Performing and/or reviewing annual production reconciliations.
  • Providing guidance and support for geologic and resource modeling efforts company-wide.
  • Providing expertise and support for drill hole database management programs.
  • Collaboration with mine operations, engineering and planning, processing and other departments.
  • Providing support for corporate technical services projects and participating in project evaluations and due diligence efforts.
  • Supporting the Company’s implementation of safety, health and environmental programs.

KEY ROLE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor of Science in Geology.
  • Continued professional development and technical training.
  • Specialized training in geostatistics, resource modeling and block modeling.
  • “Qualified Person” status or ability to quickly obtain QP status for mineral resource estimation and related reporting as defined by NI 43-101.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 10 years relevant exploration and/or mining experience.
    • Experience in geologic and resource modeling of a wide range of deposit types in support of precious metal and base metal narrow vein, bulk underground and open pit deposits required.
    • Proficiency in 3D geological modeling software required, with experience using Surpac, Gemcom and Leapfrog software packages preferred.
    • Experience in dataset evaluation and auditing and QA/QC procedures.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
  • Strong commitment to safety, health, environment and community.
  • Experience managing technical teams in support of underground and open pit mining environments.
  • Strong communication and administration skills.
  • Strong geological interpretive skills.
  • Bilingual – Spanish/English would be highly regarded.

This is a role for a senior mining professional with a blend of operations and project management credentials, as well as highly developed leadership skills. Candidates will be assessed against the following critical credentials:

  • Ensures that the safety strategy is maintained as a core value of the operations
  • Executes business strategy at optimal cost and productivity, without compromising long term growth, i.e. reserves
  • Manages P&L and evaluates options for increased profitability and improving mine performance
  • Leads the development of the mine’s strategic plan and annual operating business plan
  • Leads the strategic plan for the continued development and growth of the mine
  • Prioritizes resources for optimal utilization
  • Drives a culture of cost efficiency and continuous improvement in all areas

Qualifications

  • A track record of safety leadership
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering is preferably, and post graduate study would be considered favorably.
  • 10 years mine operations experience (including underground mine experience), at least 5 years at a senior management level.
  • Familiarity with bulk and narrow vein underground gold deposits and shaft hoisting operations is a must.
  • Experience in leading a dynamic team, successfully meeting safety and production targets, while managing all stakeholder requirements.
  • Solid understanding of budgeting and financial planning
  • Good problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Senior Mine Engineer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Develop, optimize and implement the approved mine plan to achieve annual tonnage and ounce objectives in a safe and economic manner
  • Establish, execute and effectively monitor short-term (daily and 3M) and long-term (reserves and life of mine) plans that supports the growth of the operation
  • Facilitate weekly planning meetings, with key personnel, to coordinate activities in order to meet goals
  • Oversee, coordinate and address engineering activities including planning, surface and underground infrastructure, geotechnical matters, material handling, reconciliation and reporting
  • Monitor the underground activities to coordinate and prioritize the planning goals
  • In consultation with the mine team, plan alternative optimized methods of ore extraction, stope access and mining sequence, detailing the costs, benefits and issues with each approach and makes recommendations to the team
  • Oversee and signoff on month-end engineering reports and hourly bonus calculations
  • Monitor compliance and ensure adherence to applicable engineering codes, regulations, safety and environmental practices, performance standards and specifications
  • Assist in the development of the annual mine site budget and quarterly forecasts, with support from stakeholders
  • Contribute to strategic long term mine planning sessions, with input from all stakeholders
  • Coordinate mine engineering work with that of geology, ground control, ventilation and mine operators. Work closely with the operating and technical groups to support optimum utilization of resources.
  • Troubleshoot problems that arise; analyze and recommend solutions so that mining will proceed according to plan.
  • In consultation with the mine team, develop alternative methods of ore extraction; this will include assessing stope access, mining sequence, detailed costs, benefits and issues with each approach and making recommendations to the team.
  • Assist with underground mining studies, including cost estimates
  • Contribute to the development of policies and procedures in engineering
  • Participate actively in training programs, personal improvement, and job improvement initiatives.
  • Continually develop the ability, knowledge and skills necessary to keep up with the changing methods and technology in the job.
  • Assist with special projects that arise within the planning and projects teams.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Must possess accreditation as a fully qualified Professional Engineer in good standing and a minimum of 6 to 8 years of related work experience after graduation.
  • Leadership and initiative as well as innovative and analytical thinking.
  • Strong background in narrow-vein, long-hole and conventional mining methods is essential
  • Experience with cemented rock fill (CRF) and paste fill would be considered an asset
  • Experience with UG water management would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of engineering techniques as they apply to ore body evaluation and mine operations
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong computer skills are required including the ability to use and create excel spreadsheets and work with scheduling programs. Excellent skills are required in the use of Computer Aided Design programs such as A Mine, EPS, AutoCAD and others
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power Point and Project)
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are required. The ability to relate to both operations and engineering in a team approach is essential to success.
  • Underground Mining experience is required.

Mine Technician – 1 year contract

Job Description
Your role will consist of various duties including surveying and ventilation. General duties will include assisting the planning, ventilation, and survey personnel in their day-to-day activities. Duties will include marking up development lines, doing development pick-ups, long-hole drill ring mark-ups, updating mine plans, issuing development drawings and doing month end and bonus calculations. Other duties include but are not limited to weekly and monthly ventilation surveys, assessing air losses, re-circulation and unbalancing split, inspecting auxiliary vent tubing, fan installations and notifying of repairs due, updating the master level drawings and master ventilation schematics, providing a timely delivery of the vent report on a weekly basis and issuing corrective actions to return the airflow to proper working order, if required. Safety Manager

Minera San Rafael, the Guatemala operating company of Tahoe Resources Inc., is seeking a qualified SAFETY MANAGER at its Escobal mine in Santa Rosa Department, Guatemala. The SAFETY MANAGER reports directly to the General Manager.

As a new leader in precious metals, we operate the Escobal silver mine in Guatemala and La Arena gold mine in Peru and are developing the Shahuindo project, also in Peru.

Tahoe’s management team has proven experience in permitting, financing and building precious metal mines in Latin America. The Company is dedicated to maximizing shareholder value while working to the highest standards of environmental protection and community engagement.

Reporting to the SAFETY MANAGER will be all safety supervisors, technicians and assistants. The SAFETY MANAGER will also be responsible to oversee training and physical work area inspections in accordance with Safety department goals (these goals include advancing and implementing those safety practices and standards which meet / exceed industry standards for a safe, productive, and low-cost operation).

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current safety policies and regulations for mining and milling processes
  • Assist in safety training throughout operations and assure all safety procedures and policies are in place, updated and communicated
  • Visit all areas of the operations regularly to ensure MSHA & OSHA standards are being met
  • Act as the company’s representative with government officials for safety matters
  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees’ exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards
  • Provide strategic support in areas of occupational health and industrial hygiene, working closely with medical clinic and Human Resources
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance
  • Ensure appropriate safety devices are installed on all machinery and equipment
  • Implement the mine rescue program and ensure that the Emergency Response Plan and Procedures are suitable for the purposes required
  • Review employee safety programs to determine their adequacy
  • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures
  • Review plans and operational activities to determine whether all safety requirements have been met
  • Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing
  • Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents
  • The Safety Manager will oversee and ensure proper administration of all company safety policies, compensation, and all other rules of work for all employees in all areas of the Escobal project. This may include hiring employees, discharge of employees with or without cause, level of compensation, approval and execution of promotions and demotions, and all other matters pertaining to safety performance of all workers on the project
  • Undertake weekly, monthly and quarterly reports and presentations as required
  • Lead the Safety Department by example and be involved in safety talks, meetings, presentations and seminars at operations

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge and experience with underground mine rescue
  • Minimum 7 years in health and safety at an underground mining operation
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Work, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Detailed knowledge of underground and surface safety (MSHA & OSHA standards)
